I got the award done with a cross map tomahawk. I'm not sure what the minimum distance is to qualify for a Longshot though.

You're only throttling the upload bandwidth. You're using download bandwidth to download/stream movies. I've got plenty of download to go around the block lol. This doesn't affect the my wife's watching old episodes of Melrose Place or whatever..

I was of the understanding that, to put it simply, when you enable the no acknowledgement your router is more likely to drop packets by not caring which packets are which.. However, if it's like you say it works that may also help even more. I'll have to give that a try later.

The common denominator with the connection problems faced in COD since after MW2 is simple.

West and Zampella fired; some really talented devs went with them.

Consumers have noticed ever since.

Is this common in the UK? To have a modem/router issued to you from your ISP that you're locked out of? Ouch.

I'm in the US; ISP's are too cheap(around here anyhow) to issue new whizbang modem/router combos.

Glad you were able to use a thrid party router and that it made a difference for you!

Not going to argue that a lot of people don't have/won't bother to set up their connections correctly.

I for one absolutely did have my router set correctly.

I have the DHCP server set out of range like everyone should.

I had a DMZ set with static IP correctly. This was enough every other year except for MW3 and BOPS2.

I also set the ports. This alone didn't do jack.

Hooking up straight to the modem was good but still a couple issues.

Once I did the QoS settings things changed. That's what worked for me.

Not discrediting you, but I would be willing to bet the differences you saw in-game were not random per se... but not guaranteed.

Yes, when you're connected through your modem there is no redirected traffic. Connecting straight through the modem did make a difference for me as I said, but I don't want to monopolize the internet in my house. Connecting through the modem, for some reason, did nothing about the freezing after changing classes in game.

This way I can still have my wireless up but the vast majority of my bandwidth is now dedicated to the PS3's traffic. If the router is going to drop any packets they will be from the other devices first now.

Not saying this is a universal fix or that I have in depth knowledge of setting this up(yet). This is what has helped me. It has made a clear difference; I've played a few games now where I've been bobbing between 2-3bars from a crappy host and the game still played better than it was on four bars just last week. All night for two consectutive nights now.

If you can.. give it a shot.. what'cha got to lose besides a bit of frustration?

For the record, I've earned every level/prestige/cammo/whatever that I've got.

With that said, I also don't give a damn about people prestige/cammo glitching.

So after watching Drift0r's video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MexKsFdJgnA I had tried hooking up to my modem directly and it made a bit of difference. But it wasn't really enough to justify kicking the Mrs. off the interwebs while I get my COD fix.

So I decided it was time to mess with my router a bit.. NOW, not every router has QoS settings but if yours does you may want to give this a shot.

QoS settings direct the "traffic" of your router, setting priority to different devices connected to it.

First thing I did was disable my DMZ and go here http://portforward.com to get the ports to open for my router. I entered those into the router and hit SAVE SETTINGS.

Next, while still under the GAMING & APPLICATIONS tab I went to the QoS tab.

1. Click on "Enable"

2. Change UPSTREAM BANDWIDTH to MANUAL and put in your desired setting. My ISP caps my upload at 1Mb so I set 97% of that to be dedicated to the PS3. You may want to give your less or more.. I've just been messing with how much and this seems good for me.

3. Go into your PS3 and find it's NAME under SYSTEM SETTINGS and enter that into the QoS settings.

4. Change the dropdown menu to the HIGHEST priority.

5. Go into your PS3 again and go to NETWORK SETTINGS>WHATEVER THE TOP SELECTION IS your PS3's MAC ADDRESS is shown here(scroll about half way down). Get it.

6. Enter your PS3's MAC ADDRESS into the MAC address spot.

7. If you're going to run wireless: there's another setting at the bottom of the page WMM SUPPORT change the dropdown menu to "ENABLE". Leave the NO ACKNOWLEDGEMENT setting at "DISABLE"

8. Click SAVE SETTINGS!

9. Power reboot your router and PS3.

Here is a screenshot of the QoS screen from my router. Yours may not look the same but you can use the google machine to find your specific router.

Really hope this helps at least someone out there!

Also since doing this I haven't frozen after choosing a class once!!!

Gotta say this worked for me. I'm on 10Meg Virgin Cable in the UK and have my superhub in modem mode plugged straight into my PS3 when I'm gaming and into a separate wireless router (came with the superhub ??) when I'm not. I know not everyone can do this but if you can give it a try - can't hurt!

I saw this a few days ago and decided, "What the hell? I'm desperate.."

I've gotta say..

Direct connect to my MODEM and using the "Easy" setup in the PS3's network settings did make it better. Not perfect, it'll never be that, but better.

What also has helped was to notice that at about 10:30pm EST that amount of people playing HQ(what I'm usually playing) drops to a pathetic amount of ~2000 players and connections still get HORRIBLE. When it gets to be around that time, I move on to a more populated playlist like DOM. Lo and behold, the connection's nice n smooth(enough) again.

Of course, the most populated game mode is TDM, but eff that. Eff TDM right in the eh.

If you're being affected and you've got a newer router but an older-ish modem, give it a shot. What'cha got to lose?

I think the only COD that didn't have a prestige glitch was COD4 but I may be wrong about that.

I know it bugs people like who've called off from work to level up(why?) and think that prestige means something.

Prestige doesn't unlock anything extra from the game that gives you and advantage over others.

For this reason, I could give a flying eff if someone prestige glitches. It has NO bearing on how the game functions and gives no advantage to anyone.

I've earned every cammo, level, prestige I have too but I could personally care less about people modding their profile to unlock everything.

Im not saying this is your particular issue but;

You know using hardline DOESNT turn a 5 kill bloodthirsty into a 4 kill bloodthirsty.

I finished the DSR50 last night. Every bloodthirsty i got counted.

I do prefer to win. I'll also say that WL doesn't matter. Stats don't matter at all.

Has anyone else besides me and the people I team up with won matches for the entire night only to go on elite or the game the next day and see that you recorded nothing but losses for the whole night?

TDM is of no interst to me whatsoever.

To be blunt Ive found TDM for the last 6 years to be the game mode of choice for the lowest common denominator type player. I find TDM to be insufferably boring. All you need is a headglitch and some time. Yay!!
