How much of an issue will the DLC roll out be?

Myself... I am a founder on Elite. Not because I needed to feel cool or "Elite" ... I'm cheap. I'll save $5 on the maps over the life of MW3. I digress because that is not the point... just a little set up.

I'm getting the DLC tomorrow. Cool.

My friends who are subscribers are getting it, too. Also cool.

... but...

My friends who aren't subscribers... can't.

Anyone who is not a subscriber is left out until... March.

Crap.

What is that going to mean to matchmaking?

* Will there have to be DLC only lists?

* Will the maps be in regular rotation and people who don't have it will be kicked when it loads?

... or will it just put people in rooms with other people who have the maps?

~50% of my mates will not be able to play... but how many will there be at all? I'm really concerned IW/SH did not think through what having the roll out of the DLC so spread out will mean to their players.

Anyone know?

I imagine it will be like with MW2 and Black Ops where you had the "moshpit" before they entered it into the regular playlist.

In BO... if a player in your party did not have the maps, a message would pop up on screen. The party could still play but would be matched with other players who did not have the missing maps.

Also, the DLC only playlists were Core... nothing for HC.

I'm concerned they haven't thought it through... again.

Thats right. Stupid push for the dollar.

Most likely there will be a playlist for those who have the maps.

It means your already poor matchmaking will have to search from half the player base (guesstimate and on the high side IMO), it might even make it better you never know!

making people wait till march will encourage people to buy elite and give activision 40 bucks at one shot instead of dragging it out over the year. It's going to make matchmaking hell until march when everybody else can buy the map pack.

nope... their whole pre-paid business model just speaks to their quality..

they know they will make more money by suckering people in early... so even if they hate the game and trade it in, all the DLC is still paid for...

if left to buy them seperately, i bet a large number wont... nobody had any idea what they were in for with this game when they bought Elite.... and im pretty sure that was the whole idea...

as much as i bash the devs for being idiots... i really think its not lack of talent or ability... its dollars and cents for shareholders... they dont make that kind of money by being idiots... its unethical but they have proven that marketing alone can sell a video game in this climate..

Since I currently hardly ever get games in the 50 ms ping, since one of the updates (the "improve lag" one I think). So with the decreased player pool once the maps drop, Im assuming Ill be playing on 100 ms games minimum. Not gonna be very good.

I bet we don't receive an answer at all. Something tells me they didn't think this through either. Hopefully with the new map packs, though, there will be a title update that will address some of the other problems as well.  If that is the case, i'll be more excited for that than the actual maps. Imagine a patch that truely does improve lag comp....

c'mon guys!  what's all the fuss and negativity about?  i mean, considering how smoothly the addition and integration of ELITE went and the pure flawlessness of MW3, coupled with the highest caliber Devs and "Creative Strategist" the land has ever seen, this DLC rollout will be smooth as silk amigos!  if that's not enough for ya, just look at the time and effort that was put into the website and all of it's features to make sure that it functions at the highest degree....2nd to none!  Goodtimes ahead friends...goodtimes ahead!!!

really, my expectations are low...very low! but i really do hope it goes smoothly!....for their sake!

Re: How much of an issue will the DLC roll out be?

It will probably be 99% like this.

If you all have the maps you will get paired with people that have the maps.

If somebody doesn't have the maps but you do, you will get into a lobby with people without them and they won't show up in the map rotation.

If you play by youself and have them you will get into lobbbys were everybody has them.

If you don't, you get into a lobby were everybody dosen't have them and they don't show up in rotation.

Would be nice to have an active CM who could answer questions like this and others. yet we get 402 who claims an "awesome dialog with te community" yet he hides on his twitter account where you can only post 2 sentences.

When will Activiison give us a CM who doesnt hide after release day or uses sites other than just twitter?

the COD community is alot bigger than just twitter 402. heck, try using the offical website for COD (this one).

Im tired of not having some1 who can answer simple questions for us instead of us just leaving us to speculate and follow rumors.

You are missing the point, not responding by Bowling only adds fuel to his rather already impressive fire.

He gets more attention for not responding than when he does respond and lies the whole time.

    No response from RB yet.

Ever since he met that guy working at Walgreens in Florence Kentucky he hasnt tweeted .

THAT is why you dont take candy from strangers at places like Walgreens

"Dr Lecter PLEASE tell me. Why did the man at Walgreens know who he was ?"

"Tell me Clarise. Why does a man covet what he sees ? "

"Because he plays MW3 with bad lag and hopes Robert can fix it ?"

"Very good Clarise. Has the sheep stopped lagging for YOU Clarise? ""

Re: How much of an issue will the DLC roll out be?

the dlc roll out will be buttery smooth as its handled by elite and they have an awesome track record of delivering content on time so far.....

my predictions/professional opinion as a professional guesser

matchmaking will be screwed, we are getting a dlc moshpit playlist, basically as theres a very limited number of potential players and they cant afford to spread the playerbase else they will be hardly any hosts, as it stands there is a significant lower amount of possible hosts anyways for the dlc..

Re: How much of an issue will the DLC roll out be?

My question is can it get much worse?  Ok but serously:

There seems to be plenty of people playing so matchmaking should already work w/o many problems.  So losing an 1/8th of the playing population won't hurt things, will it?

Saying 1/2 the playing population has Elite is major stretch.  Heck when normal DLC comes out, the playlists are only filled with 1/4 of the player base and we know even less people have been sucked into Elite.

Re: How much of an issue will the DLC roll out be?

I never encountered more than 250.000 MP players at once no matter at what time. Don't know official numbers but let's assume your 15% are right, there would be 37.500 pleople available for matchmaking. Let's assume that 30% go with moshpit (11.250) and the rest takes regular playlists so you have 26.250 spread out over all the game modes. I'm only playing TDM anymore cause it has between 20.000 and 120.000 players worldwide and with 20.000 you might have to search a while for a good match.

I guess if people (many of them) don't take the ELITE bait, this might ruin gameplay in the long run. It doesn't get better when the first DLC package hits in march because by then premium members will have new map drops and you divide the userbase into three groups.

I would really hate to work for IW or Sledgehammer right now, those guys have themselves backed into corner with no exits. Crazy that company's of their size could make such a stratigic blunder. This will be one more nail in Elites coffin and maybe for the entire COD series. Matchmaking is already bad, I can't image what it will be for those of you with the DLC maps and the early rollout.

Re: How much of an issue will the DLC roll out be?

Sorry to everyone above I did not take the time to read the entire thread. I have no idea how matchmaking will be affected, although in previous games I have not really noticed a change in game play.

I am just praying that the DLC release is not handled through Elite, since basically everything they have attempted thus far has been a complete flop. I am worried that they will not be able to tell who has paid and who has not. I am pretty much worried about everything they do now. This consumers confidence in the product is at an all time low.
