PS3- When using a guest, microphone echoes and breaks up primary player

My friend is trying to use a guest while playing MW3. The problem is once the guest is logged in, his microphone will broadcast through both his primary player and the guest which causes horrendous echoing and skipping. Neither of us can seem to find a way to disable just the guest's microphone, they're either both broadcasting or he just can't use the mic at all.
When he removes the guest the mic works perfectly so I know it's not a hardware issue. Sony said it's a problem with the game itself and not the PSN.
Got a response from the live chat I found. Thanks Eric (I disconnected before saying anything sorry).

Eric D. However, I do see that this is actually an issue that the developers are aware of. It seems to have been caused by a recent patch.
Jonathan Ok so it's not a setting but a bad patch?
Eric D. Yes, it seems that way. Unfortunately there's nothing I can really suggest to fix this, but I would like to get some information from you so that we can look into this issue if you don't mind.
This can possibly be caused as a router issue try opening port 3658 that is your voice port on all routers and should fix your issue
