K/D Ratio.... Does It Really Matter?

So many people are bothered about there K/D ratio.

Yeah its good to have more kills than deaths, that doesn't make it bad to have more deaths. The game is sick, c'mon its amazing but if you die alot SO WHAT. In a few seconds you'll be running around again. K/D doesnt effect how much XP you gain it just lets the noobs show off

thinking there better. Tell me if youve ever hammered a noob? i have a few times but yet theystill have the cheek to say ha my K/D's higher. So what you may not be too good at the game.YOU GET BETTER! when i first got on cod 4 i was useless, f****n useless. Know im not so bad. You'll get better with time just tell the noobs to go have a pokey bum w*nk with there sisters!!!!

Yes it does matter. It means if you understand the concept of the game. I dont care about it to an extent in this game but I also carry a 2.25 kd while screwing around with riot sheild, sniping only for the first few prestiges and terrible guns. I care about the W. I would trade in all my kills to have all the BS loses taken away. I have like 3350 W's 235 L's with a 144 win streak

I still have fun is my point. Why would anyone use the riot sheild other than fun? I dont know how anyone can have fun getting killed and losing everygame. Id just go play an RPG or try an adventure game. PS does have many good ones. FUN for me as a MAN is being competetive. I enjoy killing not getting killed. I enjoy Winning not losing. You should try getting better and see how much more fun you have.

Re: K/D Ratio.... Does It Really Matter?

It doesn't always show you understand the concept of the game.

      "we are losing Charlie"

Guy that cares about KD runs away from Charlie

Gut that doesn't care about KD runs toward to Charlie

      Who understands the concept?

Or in KC, people that care about KD won't run after tags.

I could agree with you in TDM a high KDR shows you are just plain better (15-5 is a better player than 23-16 for example) if the game wasn't so broken and laggy.  Is it fair to judge a players KD if the opponent rounds a corner and he doesn't see the player on his screen yet?  Unless he's pro, he's likely going to die.  If the opponent is rolling akimbos, he's dead before he sees him.

Re: K/D Ratio.... Does It Really Matter?

Your discussion bounces around all of over the place but I picked out a few things to discuss.

First, so you are categorizing everyone with a decent k/d as "noob". I've killed MANY noobs myself and I have a (in my mind) good k/d. Am I noob then? Do I brag or boast? NO, never. I'm not that kind of person, even with the anonymity of online play.  To me, this is just one of MANY indicators of a players capabilities.  I do agree that none of those matter while in the heat of battle but they are not meaningless stats.

Second, is it hard to learn "king's English" or whatever it's called in the UK? The wording in some of your sentences makes feel like I have been drinking Jager all night!!!

    Cheers Sir oskpeacemaker!

    You bloody wanker!!!!!

LOL!!! Easy there oskpeacemaker!!! The English is not a big deal, I have to work with colleagues everyday from the British Isles and I never tire of the unique nature of UK English compared to melting pot English of the US. It's just the word combinations that are unique.

"God im proud to be English. Without us you wouldn't be sitting on your fat ass ."

Well, not to be blunt but you would be speaking German if it wasn't for the "Lend Lease Act"!!! One hand washes the other.....

P.S. what does wanker mean anyway??

Re: K/D Ratio.... Does It Really Matter?

K/D doesn't mean crap in objective based game modes as long as you play the objective.  It's possible for an entire team to have a negative K/D on KC, CTF, Dom, and still get the win. K/D only matters in game types like TDM and FFA.  I've had higher scoring KC games than people who achieved MOABs because they sit and camp and I grab tags and play for the win.

Now if your K/D sucks and you don't play the objective, well then your gameplay and your strategy suck and if you're on my team I hope you're having fun because I'm not.

i'd have to say that to ME my K/D ratio isnt all that important, it may be to others, mine is currently at about 0.8 or something...far far faaaaaaar from spectacular.  Maybe this is the reason why it doesnt matter to me!!!!!   What i can say is, when i play a game i always look to play the objective, and do my best for my team.  The most important thing is I enjoy playing the way i play!!  when all is said and done its a game at the end of the day!

Re: K/D Ratio.... Does It Really Matter?

Why ruin your post with clan recruitment? And in regards to KDR it might matter to some to others it doesn't the truth is that in certain game types (TDM) someone who has a high KDR with high W/L will kick ass (camping or not) I've seen many players who are above 2.2kdr and 5+WL and they whopped as-s. Now if you play the game without a care in the world than have fun, no problem in that either.

Re: K/D Ratio.... Does It Really Matter?

I mostly play for fun but I do try to improve and get better.  I used to play FPS's ONLY on the PC years ago but for the first time in many years I'm playing  FPS's on consoles.  Needless to say it's taking me some time to get the controls down but I have gone from a .84 (not bad for just starting really) to a .98.

I'll break 1.00+ for sure tonite, but it takes some time to get your preffered weapons and play style down.  But again, fun should come first even though this game and tick you off very quickly lol.  Luckily I have a 63% win % going so that helps.  I played only on the 360 and prefer the controller over the ps controller but since my good friend only plays on the ps3, I made the switch and have been getting used to the ps3 controller now.

Re: K/D Ratio.... Does It Really Matter?

Since this one is getting more posts. I just posted this in the other K/D discussion thread:

They need to adjust the algorhythms for lobby leaderboard placement, especially for objects and winning. The ultimate goal of any game is to win, right? So how in the hell is win/loss not factored into lobby leaderboard placement for that particular leaderboard? Let me illustrate my point using real numbers from Elite.

I'm ranked 4,066 on the HC Dom leaderboard. I have 3,326 caps, 2,983 defends, 32,531 kills in 1,298 games. I have a 67% win percentage. For the sake of this argument, I have a 1.42 K/D. The guy ranked right above me has 3,399 caps, 2,261 defends, 34,195 kills in 1,375. He has a 44% win percentage. He has a 1.14 K/D.

To start, looking at win percentages, I would have 869 wins of my 1298 games looking at 67% and he'd have 605 of 1375. My averages would be 2.56 cpg, 2.29 dpg, 25.06 kpg. His would be 2.47 cpg, 1.64 dpg and 24.86 kpg. Net numbers is I'd have 264 more wins and 722 more defends. He has 73 more caps and 1,664 more kills. He has played 77 more total games than I.

Who would you rather have on your team? Further, how is he ranked ahead of me on the leaderboards? Statistically speaking, I'm the better player, play the objective and win far more often. The only large net number (+/- 1,000) is kills, where he has almost 2000 more than I do. Defends is almost there, but I win that having 722 more defends in 77 less games.

So again, how is this individual ranked higher on the leaderboard? Whatever algorhythms used to determine leaderboard rankings need adjusted. They need weights added for winning and they need to find a better balance. I have a guy that I play with that has a 0.6 k/d but a 2.0 w/l and will bust his ass to cap/defend objectives. I'd take him all day, everyday over the guy mentioned above.
