Currently Being ModeratedRe: The Elagaphant strikes back , Optimizing your connection on the Xbox
One thing I realised about unlimited internet in New Zealand and possibly in other parts of the world, don't use it for online gaming.
I was on an "All You Can Eat" plan with Slingshot, a NZ ISP and they slow down your connection (I normally get 11MB download but during congestion, it drops to 2MB). My upload remained at 1MB (which is apparently a godly connection for NZ internet).
I had to switch to the 250GB (a new plan and enough for my gaming and YouTube) and it's worked wonders for me especially with a decent host connection.
What I question is why I was still getting host on my unlimited broadband plan? My upload was still decent but I noticed alot of players complaining about my host connection. During the times where I was still on the unlimited plan, I hoped I wouldn't get chosen as host.

One of the mysteries of life I suppose. I have have high speed and always get host on blops. Had my first mw2 multi day Sunday last and same same. So resorted to the usual trick to avoid host, which am sure you know, vis turn all band width hungry stuff on in da house. Which works fine. Doesn't answer your question but at least its conversational -- must be the nice bottle o red talkin'

When you have two sisters on YouTube at the same time, let's just say our usage and bandwidth goes through the roof.
So we ended up going to an unlimited broadband plan which screwed up my host connection and now, I've switched to a 250GB plan instead.

Hmmmm, 250GB, same at our place, looks like its host for both of us. Our Federal govt is put in the NBN in Aussie at the mo. That's fibre to the node. This will take traffic laden speeds from 15Mbps to 100 + Mbps (rockeeeeeeeettttttt). So its host for ever I suppose. Still its the price 'o progress.

host is decided on a few different factors, upload speed and ping being two as such even though your down was being throttled (which would cause anyone connecting to you as host problems) as far as the game was concerned due to your upload you made a good host.
Unlimited plans can sometimes be a false ecomony for gamers, as they are the plans most likely to be throttled/traffic managed during peak times as they expect more people to be downloading stuff . You have alot of your customers on an unlimited plan all downloading torrents at the same time and the entire service grinds to a crawl this is why they do it. Even with unlimited you usually find in the small print the term "fair usage" which is an isps get out of jail card when customers complain their bandwidth has been throttled.
