Which sniper rifle to use??

I am a run and gun objective player without a doubt and my kdr shows it. I jump on the flag usually first and am the first on into a room and I do die a lot but I cant handle a red flag (domination) . I have really ground out some time with this game prestiging as fast as possible (#6), using specialist changing guns for points etc. I noticed lately I am in more of the mood to creep around toward objectives and have been using AR's which works pretty good but Im getting the itch after BO and now this game to set up a sniper class. I have goofed with it before but never really lasted very long and since you have to stick with a gun for so long to unlock the stuff I was hoping to get some advice.
So my question is which sniper rifle is better?? I know I probably will end up with an acog site on it as I like to move around and will still be on flags etc. anyway any advice from the snipin crew would be cool.....Oh btw I will carry my secondary when I move as I cant stand getting quick scoped and wont do that to anyone else so Im more curious about which ones are better for hard scoping.....thanks...........
I use the msr, i have 2 class one with acog and one with normal scope. I also have one class with the L118A. The barrett feels heavy and slow, I just hate it!
Oh and BTW, QS is part of the this game. People whine about it because they get pissed off at people with more skills. I mean, r&g, camping, defending, sniping/QS are all strategies of this game. People needs start dealing with it instead of crying like babies. I think I came across like one really good QS since the game is out... most of them suck at it!
MSR not only looks great but i personally think its the best sniper on the game. Once unlocked i use it straight away, but to get up the levels, i use the .50 cal and the 3rd sniper you have on the list (cant remember the name). but its own preference, so try out different snipers and feel which is the best for you.
Thats one thing I really miss about combat training in Bops....you could level up quickly with whichever gun and then try all the others out to see how you liked them. This game seems like I have to use them in real game situations and thats why I usually give up on them as I feel like im hindering my team while I try out a new gun.....
That's an excellent point man. I go through the same feeling. Last night I wanted to try p90 rapid fire plus silencer. I hate the p90 without suppressor! Needless to say I played like garbage for a while leveling it up.
I'll post on your op after I've read all the other replies. I have a lot of experience sniping in this game.
The barrett is a good gun, it's quite consistent and you have a buffer (spray and pray XD) if you miss the first shot =) The first unlocked bolt action is good as well, a lot of one shot kills, reminds me of the cod4 M40. You said you won't quickscope anyone, you shouldn't say that before you start. Sniping isnt about quickscoping, sniping isnt about hardcoping. Sniping is about getting the kill the most efficient way possible. If the most efficient way to get the kill is a quickscope, do a quickscope. If the most efficient way to get a kill is a hardscope, do a hardscope. That's the best tip I can give you. Do whatever you need to do to get the kill. I haven't sniped that much in this game so far, I used to snipe a lot in cod4 and mw2 but I'm still having a lot of fun with SMG's in this game.
I prefer to use the AS50. It isn't zoomed in as much as the others, which I prefer, as your view is much wider. It can be a little harder to pick out targets but I find it quite easy now that I'm used to it. The majority of my kills are OHKs aswel with this gun.
Yaa I didnt mean I never would Qs but most likely I will use overkill and when Im on the move Ill use my second primary saving the sniper for longer areas and defends....man the bolt acions look so much better but I can see the semi autos giving you some more slack when you do miss....
Thanks....yaa the OHK is what Im looking for as I would use the M14 if I wanted to shoot em twice..haa.....and I figured id end up with an ACOG on it cuz im not so crazy about zooming in so much....that may make sense to use one with a little less zoom....
Personally I hardly ever snipe anymore in this game, I thus want to be renamed in C4dbag, since I'm in the top 150 most c4 kills per game.
When I did in this game I started off using the L118a1 but it gets me too many hitmarkers overall, then I started spamming the 50 cal, also a good gun but again hitmarkers were not uncommon both with impact on. Until I started using the msr more, which is in basic the Intervention of mw2, best sniper for constant ohks in the game imo and it has the best feel for sniping. That is the sniper rifle I would use. I would also get good at scoping quickly aka dragscoping, it's fun and a life savior, playing defensively or not (obviously it's better to play defensively with a sniper rifle). Using it as a shotgun qsing mainly is just annoying and not effective on the long run, though the speed it has in this game is unreal thus making it very annoying with all automatics needing at least 3 bullets to kill.
I agree msr is very good only drawback is its bolt action but to be honest if your not after qs then it's the best by far, but I still get the odd qs when I'm moving from place to place and I panick shoot, but to be honest ur pretty much fkt if ur carrying it while moving lol
I prefer the Barret but also must say I haven't spent much time using the others. One thing to note, most of the maps in this game were designed to hinder sniping, everytime you think you found a good hide you find clutter blocking every possible line of sight. Also ignore the comments about QS, this method is not needed to snipe properly and infact is just a cheap method of getting quick and easy kills, based on a design flaw in the game itself. Imagine the outcry if you could use a SMG as a long range rifle.
I use the AS50. When I have the time, I will level it until I unlock the less sway option (I am concentrating on prestiging atm).
I normally do not QS (I usually run with the 2nd weapon and pull out the rifle when I find a spot to camp). But if I so happen to be moving with the rifle out, prepare to be Qscoped! I like the gun because of the OHK potential (which is almost always)
Useful comments:
The fire rate is decent so ifi you miss you have a decent chance at the 2nd shot
The sway is not terrible
(the above 2 comments are helped with using the KICK proficiency)
Useless comments:
I like the look
I like the way it sounds when fired
If I was trying to keep distance to enemies and I wanted to concentrate pretty much merely on hard scoping, I would choose Barret. Somehow that gun feels a little heavier and more stable than the bolt actions, when you need to make a little adjustments to track distant targets. AS50 has same kind of feel to it, but the scope magnifies much less.
But everyone has their favorites for whatever reason and maybe you just need to test out which one suites you best. ![]()
I agree with puppy,
I tried the Barrett first as on mw2 it was awsome, but I couldn't really handle it on mw3 not sure why but it seemed too sluggish I suppose and gave the msr a try next time through and I even spent a ticket on it so I have got it perminantly,
Each to their own but for me the msr is a little better mobility wise and is now an essential part of my set ups,
I suppose if I had given the Barrett more time I might have a better chance with that gun so shop around and c which feels the best for u, but they really do come into their own once I have unlocked the focus for them and the infra red scope,
Thanks for the feedback guys...I used the AS50 and levleled it up to 8 i think....It seemed the best for me...
.@ Sniping how do you know where you are ranked for c4 kills bro?? I even used a prest token on it and use it a ton.
Yeah, you need to go to barracks, then click on accolades, you will see a lot of them, move to the purple ones and click on the most c4 kills per game leaderboards.
Looks like im late. But good choice. If you want to know some tips on how to snipe successfully in this game I will gladly help. It seems like your style may be different than what I am experienced at, tho, which is stationary sniping (shoot and scoot)
But let me know cuz I've been doing it alot and maintain a pretty good kdr.
Could always use some advise man...haa....I was havin a good time using overkill with m AK as secondary (dont use attachments on it anyway) and the snipe as primary....it was fun because I just played normally and once in awhile when I got to those long openings over a flag I was able to clear it out from a distance....definately fun and I liked the ACOG with quick draw too.....haa...definately far from traditional but a great change of pace from my frantic Strker class....
I did notice going through the snipers using them that only a couple had consistant OSK which was a little disappointing for sure as thats the whole point of using something that slows you down so much.....I didnt try the MSR so I will probably use that next.....seems like the ACOG does take alot away from the OSK factor though even when you have a defnate above waist hit......guess theres gotta be some draw back to using that site...
MSR has been the easiest and best for me when messing about with snipers. I get sick of people saying "skill" when talking about quickscoping, I can do it fine but prefer to drag scope myself. Neither takes skill, just practice. Something needing practice doesn't equate to skill to me.
MSR, in my experience, is hands down the best sniper rifle in the game. Consistent OSK, little recoil, great scope for actually scoping in, and also great at quick scoping. I have used each sniper rifle, and the MSR wins my whole hearted approval. It has a "feel" to it that the others don't have, can't explain that part.
Well Ramboner, all of my advice is for stationary sniping lol. I actually started off with overkill when I very first started sniping. I eventually realized that even at medium range I could kill w my mp9 secondary, so I was very happy to be able to switch to assassin; part of being a sniper is being unseen. Assassin with the as50 boosted my performance from 1.8 to 2.3 in just one half of a prestige.
So my set up was SOH assassin and steady aim pro. I had steady aim pro in case someone did get close, I would be sprinting to cover while switching to secondary--so having the ready weapon faster when sprinting would be an asset. It was. Literally EVERY TIME somebody got to medium range, I would, and still do, fire ONE last shot at them then switch to secondary... this is where SOH pro became a lifesaver.
Also a secondary that is SILENCED is very important. If you are sniping from a kill nest, ppl will know about it. One because you just killed him. Two because the mini map. So, you will have multiple ppl coming for THAT spot. If someone manages to get close and you have to move to other cover to kill him, you don't want that new spot being compromised too. Waiting there ten seconds will usually yield you a free kill of somebody heading to your nest, thanks to your silenced weapon.
Lately, I've been experimenting with sit rep pro and marksman. Marksman is nice to spot targets easier. There are a couple drawbacks tho. U really shouldn't have trouble w who's a target if you keep an eye of where your teammates are. Also assassin pro doesn't show. And you really shouldn't need to hold your breath THAT long to get the kill.
Sit rep pro is great for hearing enemies coming to flank u, but its standard ability is practically wasted since you aren't running the map. I actually think im gonna quit using it for sniping. Stalker has the same problem, the pro ability is wasted. So to me steady aim is the only one that really gets fully utilized.
Equipment. Personally I love the motion sensor to cover my flank. I use Semtex but could also see how s betty could alert you from the sound even if they have stalker pro. The Semtex comes in handy when a fool gets close. I throw it at the ground to make him not chase me around whatever corner I rounded; then either get position to kill him when he does come, or run around the cover and shoot him in the side lol.
That's pretty much all I can think of right now. Happy scoping!
