NO DEDICATED SERVERS WHY!!??

So COD has been out for years now they have made millions and now with elite they are raking it in but still no dedicated servers. For a game as large and as popular as COD you think they would have set this up by now.It is one if not the top grossing FPS of all time and is hugely popular so why cant they spend some cash and sort it out Ive spent my money so why shouldnt i get some thing back. Elite is ok but it is just eye candy with stats and doesnt serve a great purpose I only bought it for the DLC.So come on IW pull your finger out and spend some of OUR money.
Dedicated servers have a shelf life. No thanx.
So you'd rather deal with the shittyass local hosting? Pfft wow.
I dont know the costs of running such servers, but with the amount of players CoD has, would it be financially responsible to try and run that much equipment all the time? Electricity, support, techs, space, etc... Would be interesting to know how much all that costs
Do you think it would cost oh say $50 a player?
I would buy Elite if that was the case.
cus they're cheap
plus what makes u think they'll add dedicated servers now. i know this game sold more than black ops but i'm pretty positive this is the last call of duty game many players buy.
most will atleast probably try treyarch's game and that's it. i see this franchise going down like halo did at one point during its popular era.
call of duty elite was basically just the black ops combat stats on a website lol and yea i only bought it for the dlc's also...figured i couldnt lose out on getting extra stuff like the lone wolf operations where half the people are boosting one way or another ![]()
no way.. we will ALL buy the next one ALLLLLL OFFFF USSSSSs
you think IW has all that money?
I mean the companys that are producing COD at the moment.I know there is more than one DUH ! So even if one company didnt have the cash to do this(while the boss is sitting on his gold toilet) Im sure they could get a loan from say a bank on the strength of it being the No. 1 selling FPS.
dedis are not a cure all for lag... keep in mind that they would have to install these everywhere... if you don't happen to live near a dedi then it looks like you will be getting all the same nasty lag you were before... maybe even worse.
We have been through this a 1,000 times now. While IW will never answer the question, Vahn has been through this with us a few times. Dedi's don't necessarily mean that console gaming will dramatically improve.
The point being they are making all this money but they cant give us dedicated servers that is the point!
Consoles will never get dedicated servers for CoD.
Hell they refuse to give PC players proper dedicated servers for MW3... and Dedicated servers are the most basic of PC features. Us not having proper dedi's is like Xbox users being unable to change the sensitivity of the joysticks. So basic that their refusal to give it to us is nothing more than an intentional middle finger from Activision/Sledgehammer.
So yeah... if they won't even give PC proper dedi's when it's the MOST BASIC of PC features, then there isn't a snowballs chance in hell that they will ever give dedi's to consoles.
i think it s cheaper for them , and having bigge profit, to not have dedicated servers..
they have more than enough money to run dedicated servers and they do improve the gaming.
feels a whole lot better playing battelfield 3 on dedicated servers than any call of duty game.
and i like call of duty better but the gaming is better in lag sense
you must be close to a server then, huh

You dont have to be that close to a server farm to get good results, not sure where you got this idea, I play on the southern East and West EA servers and it runs great, and they are thousands of miles away, I also play on the West Coast server for The Old republic (Im from Eastern Canada), and it usually is under 70 ms ping and its very stable.

rule of thumb with dedis well server farms for dedis is 1000 miles, ie you never want your players more than 1000 miles from a farm, thats why you usually find for USA the farms are placed east /west coast and texas (although this does cause a small blind spot if you live in montana as you cover the most area.
battlefield has huge lag issues and a whole lot of glitches that haven't been fixed . battlefield may look good but the gameplay is extremly bad . who jumps over a fence feet first with no hands ? thats weird . battlefield you can't even see the enemy , you might , might , see the muzzleflash , but by then its too late . Call of Duty will remain king . dedicated servers would mean an end to the multiplayer after an amount of time has been elapsed . idk about you but i wanna jump online 5 years from now and still be able to play this game online .
Why not then. I am NO FAN OF BF3, BUT!!!!! Their dedicated servers and online play out shines MW3.... Hit detection is great and the gameplay is very consistant... But why is that?
Is it the 60 frames a second? Is it the fact that BF3 WAY better net coding? What is it.
I THINK ITS THE DEDICATED SERVERS. Dont believe Vahn...
COD 2, COD 3, COD4, WaW, MW2, MW3 all play fine for me, the only one I had any issues with was Blk Op's and none of these games had Dedicated servers.
BF3 uses dedi's, but still utilises client side hit detection and as a result any high pingers in the same game as you still give similar results to the "lag compenstation/sync" problems that plagued me in Blk Op's - of course with the server browser I can choose a different lobby, but BF3's servers are the worst of the series.
BF3 also has 24 player games with vehicles and as s result needs the dedi's.........

BF3 doesnt run at 60 FPS, it runs at 30. That also can give it half the workload on the netcode portion of the game They dont need it to cycle at 60 fps like the Xbox runs at..

First off... your chosen name couldn't be more spot on... well done.
Do you even understand the difference between listen servers and dedicated servers? I doubt it. Take the EA BF3 server for example... you still get regionality... there will still be lag comp... the servers get taken down and you are unable to play... at some point they go away entirely.
Dedicated servers are not the end all, beat all solution.
Warhawk and Socom Confontation Where very smooth running games 95% of the time on the PS3. Lag didn't happen very often and to think this was 3 to 5 years ago, peoples internet connections have gotten much better since then.
Who cares if they shut off the servers in 6 years. I don't find myself playing my PS2 games anymore. Servers are never down for more than a couple hours on a weekday night so I wouldn't factor that in.
Don't know why your sticking up for the shitty way COD does it.

If the COD series had Dedis then the only two games you could play right now would be MW3 and Limited Black Ops. Everything from MW2 and downward would be dead in online play.
You are talking in terms of 6 years but it would be more like one year where you would be getting stuck in the lobby with people across the world in every match. THEN you would consider the game dead because of a real 2 second lag.

You and dope must share a common past time...
1. COD has had lag in every title. Remove the rose tinted glasses.
2. BF3 has horrific lag... with dedicated servers.
3. I care that the servers are down sometimes at night since that might be the only chance I get to play (I have those pesky things called a job and a family).
4. The servers would be shut down or migrated to the new title within 24 months of release - max.
5. You have zero idea as to the cost of setting up and maintaining so many server infrastructures or you wouldn't mind listen servers either... where do you think they pass on the costs, genius?
You're on the XBOX subforum... who cares if the 10 people who play SOCOM Confrontation on the PS3 had a good experience. No one was playing the game... that's why they worked okay (which they didn't... I played that nightmare of a shooter).

the reason we dont have deicated servers is they would be wasted on people who cant use search
A decent 24 man server would set you back £20-£30 a month. I don't even want to imagine how much it would cost a month to run enough servers for 500,000-800,000 players, keeping them all within respectable distances for every cod player.
yikes.

Imagine having to pay 20 dollars for an online code when you bought the game new.
Yikes !
Imagine all the complaints from the people who wanted dedicated servers and didnt know that they arent free. The people who wanted dedis would be saying "Go back to P2P you money grubbing creeps! It ran fine with P2P ! You made tons of money on the last games so why dont you use that money instead of ours. I cant wait til the next COD game !" ![]()
Then add in the factor of the "hacking moderators" that they now have in BF3 on dedicated servers.

if you search my username and the word dedis ive actually listed the vast costs involved a few times.. if you cant be arsed to look to give you a rough idea.. they would need roughly the entire infrastructure of world at war in EACH server centre dotted around the world
