LED vs LCD

What should i get for gaming? and does it matter if i get a used one or not. i am trying to buy a new tv for this summer and ive seen a few that are pretty good and cheap. but i can get bigger ones that are used for the same price as new ones that are smaller. im wondering if getting it used matters or not. im going to order it on amazon or newegg
Honestly i play on a 60' Sharp LED and a 46" Sony LCD
Both work great but with the 60' i have to put the setting on "game mode" because it seems there is a screen lag. The screen isnt as bright and the shrpness is down, but i did some research and found that high quality tvs that are big in size have a lag problem.
Because the screen is so big and the settings are so high. But it still looks great on the 60'.
Point being, if its just for "gaming".....you dont need a great big screen. Iv gone thru many big and small, and can promote 47 inches or less. If its for both for theatre and gaming....id go BIG or go HOME....Thats my philosophy.
Because no tv in my life"im 30yrs old" has ever givin me the satisfaction and awe like my 60'.
I have a 23" LCD monitor, Acer. Been using it now for 2 years, and as far as playing video games I would recommend it, especially for something like COD. I was playing on a 42" for awhile, and when I switched to the monitor I improved, I'm just able to focus better. But thats just me. As far as a big TV, new or used, I don't know. I just thought mentioning a monitor as being used for gaming could be the way to go.
I aslo have used a monitor. Tho i didnt mention it, it did do well for me. But most people use the monitor because of their actual computer.
I myself couldnt stand sitting at the computer desk playing COD...that or starcraft. So i used the DVI port to play on my tv anything that was computer gaming.
But yes you are correct my 24' monitor did well
A lot of people say to stay away from used tvs. I used to be one of those people until I actually looked into it. The first thing to go in a tv is almost always the backlight. So, the main fear of buying a used tv is that your backlight's lifespan has already been significantly shortened by the time you buy it. But, the average lifespan of a backlight is 60,000 hours. So basically, even if someone used it 60 hours a week (which is a LOT) it would last about 20 years. And honestly, you're probably going to replace it with something better within 5 years.
I say if you can get a better tv used, go for it.
I bought my Sony 46' used.
For 150 bucks it does and has been doing wonders. 3D still works perfectly. Nothing wrong with used as long as it isnt physicly abused.
Ill never understand why/how people could put tvs thru so much. Even with kids some of the tvs i visited before bying my sony were just trashed.
I use a 19" HD LCD TV,I prefer to use a VGA cable as it sharpens the graphics far better than any HDMI lead,it actually makes MW3 look like its running on a PC.
wow thanks for the reasponses. ive played on my friends 50 inch tv idk what type it was but i didnt really notice if my gameplay was better or not and i play mw3 on pc on a 1280 x 1024 screen (idk how to check how many inches it is) but thats pc. im probably going to be used to small tvs or does xbox change everything? but im looking to buy 19" plus between less than $150.
I bought a used 22" for less than $90. I play it on 1080p and it works flawlessly. The main thing I would probably suggest is, don't get too hung up on the name brands. As I was comparison shopping, I noticed several models that had the EXACT SAME HOUSING AND PARTS but different logo and price tags on them. That was seriously the only difference.
what really matters most is the response rate or latency.
generally the binnger the screen = more latency
don't settle for anything with a higher than 4ms response rate.
I game on a 23" LED Samsung computer monitor.
computer monitors are also less expensive than tv's.
just make sure you get one with HDMI hookups.
If you buy anything over a 30" screen. Go with plasma. 600hz refresh rate, least amount of inline lag with gaming mode turned on. I am not going into a long speech on the benifits of a plasma over a LCD or LED. But trust me it is better than anything short of playing on a small computer monitor.
plasma - highest refresh frame rate- by far.---
plasma is the way backwards lcd and led are kinda the same just led is brighter but i play on a 42 inch toshipba mcd but sometimes play on a 26 inch lcd and find the 26 inch 1 better lol
plasmas are more expensive and probably doesnt fit between my price range of less than $150

I have played on both LED and LCD, both were 29" tv screens and i personally preferred the LED. The LCD screen seemed to lag alot more than the LED, and i think its because the crystals in the tv have to turn to create the image, whereas the LED just changes colour.
I currently play on a 29" CRT and that lags less than both, but thats only because the graphics are much worse.
I Prefer LED, but my friend prefers LCD, so i guess its all up to personal preference.
