Let’s say you’re playing Domination on Shipment 1944. Grenades are flyin’ in, LMG rounds are whippin’ past and you’re crouched behind a container trying to capture C without anybody noticing. You call out for help but the opposing team is too strong and your teammates get cut down before they can help capture the point. The progress bar is excruciating, but you’re almost there. You quickly check your six, nothing there. But, you see the point is now ‘contested’ and your progress halted. You turn around again and the reason why is standing right there and slices you to death with a sword that looks bigger than the solider holding it. You watch it again on the killcam… a sword?
You aren’t playing Call of Duty: Knights (although that does have a nice ring to it), you just experienced the Attack of the Undead’s newest Melee weapon, the pride of the Highland Scots: the Claymore.
The Claymore brings one of the world’s oldest weapons to WWII. It has the aesthetic of Medieval battle but it remains as lethal as ever. One big swing with this thing and you’ll slice and dice anything in your path. It’s a fitting melee to take on a zombie or bunker full of defenders on Operation Neptune.
There aren’t technically stats for Melee weapons because they’re all one-hitters. But, if we were to rank the intimidation factor of the Claymore it’d be among the upper-tiers in the game. Imagine what an opponent will think when they see you charging with a melee. A knife? Eh, I get what you’re doing here. A shovel? Alright, this is for digging but I’m not comfortable with how angry you look running at me. Ice pick? This person may not be doing great. I’ll admit it. I’m scared. A sword? Yikes.
And, while robbing enemies isn’t really a thing in Call of Duty, adding to the terror is the new Zombie Slayer Uniform. Dressing as a skeleton probably won’t fool many zombies, but it’ll certainly strike fear into your opposition. Concealing your face with a skull mask is a strong choice when you’re in a match. A faceless avatar is one you simply can’t trust. Is this a person who cackles as they get kicked for killing their own teammates in Hardcore? Do they throw a Molotov at a car with no one around just to watch it burn? You can’t see their face. So, you have no idea. And, if they’re carrying a sword in a game set in the 1940’s, that begs even more questions.
When it comes to weaponry, in Call of Duty®: WWII, you’re not lacking for choice: Rifles, SMGs, LMGs, Sniper Rifles, Pistols, Launchers, Melees – it’s a healthy weapons cache. But, the addition of the Claymore is just the shot-in-the-arm your gear needs to take on the undead with confidence. And, luckily for you, the Epic ‘Survivor’ variant is available right now at the Quartermaster under the Operation Overlord tab. So, put those Armory Credits to good use and swing the hefty Scottish iron. Trust us, it’s a satisfying blade.
