Inside the Armory

Since bursting onto the scene in 2003, right up through today’s anticipated return to World War II, a cornerstone of Call of Duty has been iconic weaponry (Google ‘M1 Garand ping’ if you’re skeptical.) This week, we’ll focus on an assault rifle, an SMG and a sniper rifle.

M1 Garand: the granddaddy of 20th-century weaponry. Standard issue for US soldiers in World War II, this semi-automatic, .30 caliber rifle delivers powerful, accurate damage at any range. The iconic ‘ping’ sound alerts the user to load another 8-round clip (or that it’s bayonet time.) This weapon withstood the test of time.

This .45 caliber submachine gun is a monument to American efficiency. It’s reliable and effective. The Grease Gun is named after the non- weaponized mechanic’s lubricating tool. It feeds from a 30-round rectangular magazine box, making reloading a low-effort affair. It has a high rate of fire, and its lightweight design allows for easy maneuverability.

The M1903 saw heavy action throughout both World War I and World War II. Loaded with 5-round clips, this bolt-action, ranged rifle packs a punch at distance one .30 caliber bullet at a time. The attached telescopic sight provides accuracy at a distance and effectively downs targets all over the map.

These three weapons represent just a taste of what’s coming. In the coming weeks and months, keep an eye out for more in-depth looks at the inner workings of Call of Duty: WWII.
