Modern Warfare III Multiplayer Map Guide — Tanked
Prebrief
Deploy to the Zoo location from Vondel, where the high-action Multiplayer experience is focused in and around the Aquarium and Reptile exhibits. In this evening operation, you’ll encounter a modified version of this fan-favorite Vondel Point of Interest (POI) — sorry, no parachuting onto the rooftop here — yet there are plentiful tactical advantages to be had for the well-informed Operator.
This midsized 6v6 map encourages long-ranged battles around the perimeter with closer fights breaking out near cover items and inside the interior exhibits. Now let’s take a closer look to improve your chances of being at the top of the food chain.

Staff access: Enter the Employee Room via the eastern Alley for a strong point of attack into the Aquarium. The area offers two pathways into the exhibit and works well as a defensive point to ambush enemies moving in and out of the building. Escape back to the Alley if the fighting gets too hot.
Cave dweller: Honor the ancient past with a stay in the Cave. This area provides strong defensive support and sightlines over several prominent northern pathways. Just remember the gap in the roof — a well-aimed projectile could find its way through to your position.
The long and short of it: Sightlines of all stripes abound here; even expansive areas like the Alley and Middle provide ample opportunities to take cover or duck down a different path. Move through the whole map with different weapon types to learn how different playstyles can best adapt to each key area.
In team-based modes, squads will either spawn at the Entrance (northeast) or by the Gate (southwest).
The building housing the Aquarium and Reptile exhibit marks the main attraction between the two spawns, along with the outer pathways winding through various concession stands and enclosures.
We’ve divided Tanked into five sections based on key areas around the map:
- MAIN SPAWN POINT: Entrance (+ Cave, Crocodile)
- MAIN SPAWN POINT: Gate (+ Aviary, Enclosure, Savanna)
- ADDITIONAL AREA: Aquarium (+ Employee Room, Reptile)
- ADDITIONAL AREA: Alley (+ Bar, Giftshop)
- ADDITIONAL AREA: Middle (+ Restaurant, Ice Cream)
MAIN SPAWN POINT: Entrance (NORTHEAST)
Entrance is a prime location for longer ranged Loadouts, offering deep views toward the western Alley and the northern Aquarium door. The wide stone barrier around the Cave provides solid waist-high cover with plenty of room to strafe back and forth without leaving its protection. If you’ve got a closer ranged weapon equipped, use the available signage and the souvenirs kiosk to cut off sightlines as you move into position.
Sightlines remain in the midrange as you pivot toward the western Crocodile enclosure; race through the double doors into the Reptile exhibit to close the distance or swing around to the Restaurant to continue engaging at longer ranges.
The Cave offers a great ambush point against enemies moving through the Entrance. Its thick walls provide ample protection with enough room to pivot around for the best angle. Also use the area as a trap, falling back into its confines to force your pursuer into a disadvantaged position.
MAIN SPAWN POINT: Gate (SOUTHWEST)
Like Entrance, Gate is dominated by midranged sightlines, though the large stone formation and some surrounding objects provide the means to push the fight closer. Head north to get right into the thick of it, firing long shots down past Restaurant or using the abundant cover pieces in Middle to protect your flank as you move toward the Aquarium.
Head east of the Gate starting position to swing through Aviary into Savanna, a narrow winding path that pivots toward the lower Aquarium. Take the Enclosure shortcut or move under the neon lion, depending on whether you’d like to end up closer to Middle or the Alley, respectively. Be on the lookout for enemies on the raised grass portion of the Savanna pathway to avoid getting ambushed along the way.
ADDITIONAL AREA: Aquarium
A state-of-the-art exhibit, the Aquarium sits in the center of the map, making it a hot spot of activity throughout the match. Inside, a large central tank divides the main room, with some smaller scattered objects offering cover points between. Pull back toward the visitor information desk to control a narrower view, though watch the doorways leading into the adjacent Employee Room and out toward the north Entrance.
The Tunnel on the Aquarium’s south end begs for close-quarters skirmishes, its small, curved design leaving little room to move. Grab a Shotgun and, like a hungry shark, attack anything that moves in the area, swapping back to a midranged weapon as you move into the main Aquarium floor or leave the building through the south Tunnel exit.
There are no direct connections between the Aquarium and Reptile exhibit, but the two areas share a roof in close proximity. Reptile offers a tighter arena in comparison, with entry points on four sides requiring swift movement within to defend the position. Use the central enclosures for cover and back off into the eastern Cave exit to escape the main room without fully exposing your location to the outside.
ADDITIONAL AREA: Alley
The Alley running along the eastern wall of the Aquarium is ripe for long-ranged engagements, even with the angled white trailer partially blocking views down its length. Set up with a Sniper Rifle on either end and eliminate incoming enemies; when roles are reversed, use the trailer and the brick wall for cover to bolt into the Aquarium’s Employee Room, or race through the northern double doors that lead to the visitor information desk.
Note the Bar area south of the Alley, an offshoot of the main path that can be used to ambush passing enemies or as a place to fall back to when you need a breather to reload or to recover your health. Crouch behind the Bar counter to minimize your profile when fighting opponents coming in from the southern Savanna pathway.
ADDITIONAL AREA: Middle
Featuring partial walls, hedgerows, and signage, the otherwise open Middle area challenges players to engage at midrange while remaining ever vigilant against close-quarters attacks launched from behind one of the several scattered cover pieces. The Ice Cream shop offers further opportunity to control your sightlines here. Though its rooftop is inaccessible, it’s possible to climb up on some of the surrounding walls for an elevated view over the area.
The western Restaurant offers clearer sights down the length of the map, looking well into the northern Crocodile exhibit or down toward the Gate, depending on your position. Even with the food kiosk blocking a full view down the lane, it’s possible to maneuver around it while maintaining a long distance from your target. If you’d rather close the distance, use the angled hedgerows to block these longer sightlines.
Top 10 Tips
1. Tour the sights. Tanked offers a variety of engagement styles from long-ranged shootouts down its sides to the more confined action of the Aquarium and Reptile exhibits. The large cover pieces throughout, however, give close-quarters Loadouts a means to maneuver through the open. Sharpshooters, on the other hand, may want to pack a close-ranged Secondary when approaching the map’s tighter areas.
2. Rip their intel. Equip the Counter UAV streak to scramble the enemy team’s minimap, a good tactic for obscuring your position when it’s time to go loud. Time it with a push toward the objective to prevent defenders from anticipating the attack.
3. Cover at a whim. Don’t feel like being tied to the cover pieces available? Take along the Deployable Cover Field Upgrade to create your own defensive position when needed, regardless of where you currently are on the map.
4. Shark in the water. The Aquarium is bound to see plenty of action no matter the game mode. Take up a position in the southern Tunnel or in the Employee Room to ambush incoming enemies while avoiding the dangers of posting up in the main room.
5. Worth the risk. Playing cat-and-mouse chasing after enemies in the Middle? Climb onto one of the partial walls to get the advantage over them. Jump back down once they’re eliminated to minimize your exposure to the surrounding area.
6. In and out. In Domination, Hardpoint, and Control, the A.C.S. Field Upgrade becomes an invaluable piece of equipment here. Drop it down on the targeted objective point and then get back behind cover. It’s best used when another teammate is on the way to finish the capture or to complete a capture when you need to get moving before it’s done.
7. Drill the Middle. Equip the Drill Charge Lethal when going up against enemies in the Middle. Toss it against any partial walls or signage they attempt to use as cover. Even if you don’t hit them in the blast, the threat of it is likely to send them scurrying. Eliminate them as they attempt to retreat.
8. No surprises. Look for the High-Gain Antenna being introduced in Season 3, zooming out the minimap for you and nearby allies. Enemies will also remain on the minimap for a longer duration if a nearby ally is using the CCT Comms Vest, so invite a friend to maximize your intel benefits.
9. Pick the right footwear. Even with its myriad cover options, there are still several areas around the map providing little cover from obstacle to obstacle. If you’re getting eliminated in these open areas, consider equipping the Running Sneakers to improve your Tac Sprint capabilities. While you’re vulnerable mid-run, you’ll reach the next point of safety in a flash.
10. Come and get it. Can’t decide between the tighter confines of the interior exhibits and the longer-ranged perimeter? Equip the Overkill Vest to equip a Primary Weapon for each scenario, featuring improved weapon swap speed for quickly changing tactics. Pair it with the Mag Holster to bolster your reload speed as well. Now you’re ready for anything.
