The first Zombies experience came about during development for Call of Duty: World at Warwhen character animations and the development of co-op gameplay mechanics collided inside developer Treyarch in the happiest of accidents. The result: the seed of what would eventually become Zombies, which infected the entire studio, helping the mode to mature and crawl its way onto the game disc.

Players would square off, repelling waves of the undead in the original, classic Zombies map, Nacht der Untoten.
