Prebrief

Gear up and ship out to Tokyo on this mid-sized Multiplayer map that drops Operators right into the city’s nightlife where flashing ads, entertainment, and late-night eateries line the main road and courtyard where the action takes place.

Besides the upper levels of the Hotel and Manga buildings along the bottom path, Tokyo keeps the fight on the ground. Weave through the streets looking for your next target or risk close fights in the Arcade and Hotel. Use this guide to familiarize yourself with the city block so you can get right down to business when the match begins.

Best and only: The Hotel and Manga buildings on either side of Center Street are the only points on the map providing upper-level access, increasing their prevalence as power positions. Use this to your advantage and be aware of the risk these areas pose when passing by on ground level.

Get a better map: Equip either the CCT Comms Vest or the High-Gain Antenna Perk for the dual benefit of a zoomed out minimap and enemies remaining on your radar for a longer duration. The extra sight you’ll gain on adjacent flanking paths does wonders for tracking enemy movement throughout the map’s twisting urban layout.

Rig it: Try out the I.M.S. Killstreak arriving in Season 4, loaded with smart explosives that track enemy targets when triggered. Place it in any of the map’s small interior spaces to catch foes off guard as they rush into the building.

Tactical Overview

In team-based modes, squads will either spawn near West Street or East Street.

A bustling corner of Tokyo nightlife lies between the two points, offering late night shopping, entertainment, and accommodations just off the metro.

We’ve divided Tokyo into four sections based on key areas around the map:

-       MAIN SPAWN POINT: West Street (+ Lanterns, Parking)

-       MAIN SPAWN POINT: East Street (+ Metro, Metro Courtyard, Apartment Alley)

-       ADDITIONAL AREA: Center Street (+ Manga, Apartment)

-       ADDITIONAL AREA: Center Courtyard (+ Arcade, Alley, Hotel)

MAIN SPAWN POINT: West Street (WEST)

Enter battle under the bright city lights. The West Street spawn puts Operators in place to fight along the main road passing across the bottom of the map, though the imposing Manga building prevents a clear view across. The covered Parking area nearby provides little room to maneuver but makes for a great point from which to ambush enemy players in the immediate vicinity.

The Lanterns zone offers a slightly bigger arena with a lower portion that steps down to the map’s border and the upper square leading into the Hotel. Use the surrounding partial walls to control your angles and cover your flank while attacking enemies on the street. If they start tossing grenades, move down the stairs out of the blast radius or burst into the Hotel to reposition.

MAIN SPAWN POINT: East Street (EAST)

Pull back on East Street with a mid-ranged weapon to attack enemies funneling toward the road from Metro and Apartment. The road offers a key defensive position as there are no flanking paths in, though it’s only effective if there are enemies seeking out the area.

Use the natural alcove created by the nearby parking area to take on enemies approaching from Metro, the first interior space you’ll encounter when moving forward on East Street. The station is a long building with two entryways facing the Arcade along with the side entry from the main road. Note the confined lockers area inside, a prime location for ambushing passing Operators.

South of the Metro, Apartment and the alley running behind it lead to the map’s southern path. Take the alley for a more discreet approach to Center Street or climb the steps up into the building to make use of a prime power position.

ADDITIONAL AREA: Center Street

Scattered vehicles fill the road along Center Street with food stands breaking up the sidewalk. To either side sit the map’s two major vantage points, the Manga building to the west and Apartment to the east.

While fighting across Center Street, note the two pathways coming down from the Center Courtyard. Use the food stands as cover when focused on these routes to avoid incoming fire from the two buildings and watch your side when moving past them. Find the right balance between quick forward movements and holding your ground near vehicles and other cover objects when it’s time to fight.

Operators with precision weapons will heavily favor the Manga and Apartment buildings for their views over Center Street and toward the northern paths leading to the Center Courtyard up top. An incoming grenade is the obvious counter for dislodging perched enemies, though both buildings provide a smaller secondary room that can be used to evade explosions.

Though the rear staircases of each building mark the only direct entrance, look for vehicles and other objects near the upper windows for the means to jump to the second level.

Vault on top of the low stone wall on the map’s southern boundary to get behind the dumpling stand with the red banners draped over the front found near the middle of Center Street. Strafe to either side of the stand when battling enemies approaching from the Center Courtyard or to ambush Operators coming from the sides. Whatever you do, tread carefully; it’s a long drop down if you overstep.

ADDITIONAL AREA: Center Courtyard

The Center Courtyard and Alley presents a more winding path across the map compared to Center Street. All fighting is confined to the ground floor here, and though the Hotel and Arcade bookend the Center Courtyard, they’re not power positions like Manga and Hotel; the two kiosks and the large sitting area in the courtyard obstruct views across. These features foster an environment suited to close-ranged skirmishes and flanking tactics.

The Hotel is the larger of the two interior points here, divided between the check-in counter, lobby, and sleeping pods. Fights are still confined to close quarters within, but there’s more room to maneuver compared to the single room Arcade.

Players with longer ranged weapons might try covering the northeastern Alley, a slim pathway funneling the action toward Metro. As mentioned in the Center Street section, two routes lead down from the Center Courtyard, offering vital shortcuts between the two dominant lanes crossing the environment.

Top 10 Tips

1. Watch your six… and three and nine. Tokyo’s loose grid layout opens plentiful flanking routes throughout the map. There are always other means of reaching the target, so remain vigilant about which angles you’re exposed to and which cover pieces you can use to minimize your profile.

2. Hold on just a little longer. Equip the Trophy System Field Upgrade to improve your defenses while positioned in either Manga or the Apartment. It might just keep you alive long enough to cinch that next streak.

3. The route makes the weapon. In general, short-ranged weapons perform better across Tokyo’s northern path while mid- to long-ranged weapons will find success across the more open Center Street route. Consider your current weapon’s strengths and weaknesses in each location when choosing the best route forward.

4. Keep up the momentum. Gain the initiative with movement enhancing Perks like the Running Sneakers which improve your sprint to fire speed out of Tactical Sprint or opt for the All-Terrain Boots to bolster your all-around movement speed while disabling Tac Sprint. Choose the footwear that best fits your playstyle and zoom around the map eliminating target after target.

5. Smile for the camera. Approaching Center Street and don’t want to get tagged by an enemy in Manga or the Apartment? Keep the Snapshot Grenade Tactical in your Loadout and toss it into the upper floor. Any enemies within—as long as they’re not using the Tac Mask Perk— will become momentarily lit up, making it easier to usurp their position.

6. Bait and lure. While aggressive play is usually recommended, there are times when leaving your position overly risks exposure to new enemy sight lines, especially when traversing Center Street. Don’t hesitate to pull back from a skirmish if it means retaining better ground. Many players will seek you out in the heat of the moment, giving you the advantage.

7. Make your vantage point. There may not be many second-story vantage points here, but the plentiful vehicles and vending machines scattered throughout the map can be used to gain leverage over your enemies. Hop up, land an elimination or two, and then get back down and keep moving.

8. Stalk your prey. The Stalker Boots are another great Gear option in Tokyo. Since the Season 3 Reloaded update, the increased strafe speed affects all directions of movement instead of just lateral, keeping you quick on your feet while aiming down sights no matter which way you move.

9. Jut out. Step up on either of the grey platforms extending over the tunnel in Center Street for a more discreet fighting position. The large central column in each provides thick cover that’s easy to move around when you need to adjust your angles.

10. Out all night. Take the Enhanced Vision Goggles Field Upgrade for a spin to amp up the contrast on Tokyo’s nightlife. Not only does it give a cool look to the map, but it also makes it easier to track enemy movements. With sights like these, you’ll never want the night to end.
