Prepare for Launch: Black Ops Cold War and Warzone™ Season Two Briefing and File Size Intel

  • BOCW

Prepare for the latest Call of Duty season with a recap of everything you need to know before launch and file sizes for both Black Ops Cold War and Warzone updates across all platforms.

Season Two will make landfall this evening, adding new gameplay experiences to both Warzone and Black Ops Cold War, while further escalating the global stakes of the hunt for Perseus and the fate of Verdansk.

Already, Black Ops Cold War owners should have received an update to their console or PC. It is available for download now if you have not installed it already.

Tonight, those with Warzone will receive their update between 9-11 PM PST, officially kicking off Season Two with all content becoming available in both games.

Prepare yourself for this upcoming season with all the intel we have on Season Two prior to its launch, including what you need to know about each game’s update across all platforms.

Recap of Season Two Pre-Launch Intel

Content Intel: First, in case you are unaware of all the upcoming major updates to Black Ops Cold War and Warzone, our massive announcement blog breaks Season Two down in great detail.

Battle Pass and Store Intel: This announcement blog hints at some of the content included in this upcoming season’s Battle Pass and Bundles, which received its own special article and laid out the first two weeks of Featured Store bundles. These 100 new Tiers include a fresh, yet shrouded face for the Warsaw Pact, the ruthless Lao warlord “Naga,” who received a dedicated biographical post that dives deeper into his criminal organization.

Zombies Outbreak and Meta Intel: Out of all the new content coming in Season Two, one experience is poised to break ground within Black Ops Cold War: Outbreak. A large-scale Zombies experience set across massive regions throughout the Ural Mountains, Outbreak received its very own intel drop earlier this week. After learning more about this new experience, see how you can make use of the two new Aetherium Crystal types you’ll earn through this article on every Skill Tier IV and V upgrade that is poised to change the Zombies meta.

Free Trial Intel: If you’re excited for Outbreak, but don’t own Black Ops Cold War, then you’re in luck; Free Access Week begins tomorrow for Outbreak and Multiplayer. Full details on this limited-time access period can be found in this blog post.

PlayStation 4 Players: File Size and Making Space

Those who own a standard PlayStation 4 with a default hard drive of 500 GB may need to make room if they have the full versions of Modern Warfare®/Warzone and Black Ops Cold War with all modes and packs installed.

Should you have both games installed and have kept up to date with updates, you may need to delete some unused Game Content to have a successful download and install of the Warzone patch tonight.

Here’s how you can do that in both games:

·      Black Ops Cold War: At the main menu, press R3 to go to “File Management.” You will then be able to delete any content you may not have played in a while. The exact content to choose can be found in the Storage Management article linked below.

·      Modern Warfare/Warzone: At the main menu, press Options, select the “General” tab, then scroll down to “Game Installs.” From here, you can delete any content you have not played in a while.

No matter which platform you play on, remember that the Warzone download is not necessary if you are only playing Black Ops Cold War and vice versa. Furthermore, players can choose to uninstall/remove other data packs if they are no longer needed for a smaller overall file size.

PC Players: New Patching Process Intel

On Battle.net, Black Ops Cold War and Warzone have a new patching process (introduced for the Season One Reloaded update to Black Ops Cold War) that will keep updates smaller and reduce overall file size growth as both games evolve. However, this new process includes a copying phase that requires additional hard drive space, which is immediately reclaimed upon completion and is not an additional download.

When this update begins, you will see the word “Copying” over the progress bar along with a different file size number than what is listed above. This initial file size is not the update being download, but rather files being copied over.

For Warzone, this copying file size is 26 GB for non-Modern Warfare owners, and 28 GB for those that own Modern Warfare. For Black Ops Cold War, the copying file size is 30.85 GB.

After this process is complete, the actual patch download will begin. The space used by the copied files on disk will be reclaimed after the patch is downloaded and the game is playable again.

Now that you have all this intel, it’s time to assemble the squad and prepare to drop into Season Two in just a handful of hours. The fate of the world is in your hands, Operator.

Execute the mission.
