Welcome to Part III of our ‘Inside the Armory’ series, a weekly historical look at some of the iconic weaponry you’ll see in Call of Duty: WWII. If you missed Part I or Part II of this series, you can go back and read them here and here. This week, we’ll be focusing on two of the weapons you’ll find in Call of Duty: WWII: the MG 15 and the Bazooka.
MG15
While the German-made MG 15 originated as a defensive weapon for aircraft, by the time World War II came around, it was being utilized by German soldiers on the ground. Refitted for infantry use, this LMG fired from an open bolt, feeding the 7.92 mm cartridge from a 75-round magazine. The magazine’s unique shape comes from the even distribution of ammunition on either side of the open bolt.
Bazooka
When it came to stopping armored vehicles, the United States Army called upon the 2.36-inch M1A1 anti-tank rocket launcher, commonly known as the Bazooka. A combination of rocket-powered weaponry and shaped charge technology, it represents one of the earliest instances of anti-tank weaponry. While not without its technical problems, the original Bazooka was copied, improved-upon and kept in use for many years.
