Multiplayer Mode Guide — Gunfight
Pair up with another Operator and battle the enemy team using randomized Loadouts. No respawns, no health regeneration.
Prebrief
Saddle up with a partner in the 2 v 2 Call of Duty®: Black Ops 6 multiplayer mode that is Gunfight. Returning to the Call of Duty franchise is a mode that features two players dropping into a small or Strike map with a randomized Loadout and putting their wits to the test against another two-player team with the exact same Loadout. Gunfight is the ultimate showdown of which duo is more strategic, quick on the draw, and can adapt to both the environment as well as the tools put into their Operators hands. Work side by side with your teammate to gain the upper hand but remember, there are no respawns and you don’t regenerate health, so a single mistake could put you out of the fight until the next round.

Primetime pressure: With only 40 seconds on the clock, every round is primetime and there’s no time to waste. Form an attack plan and execute it with haste and finesse. Force your enemies to react to your actions rather than the other way around.
Overwatch the Overtime Zone: It doesn’t take long to capture the Overtime Zone, but sometimes it’s best to let the enemy try for it first. This is especially effective when your side has more health, meaning that you’ll win the round if the zone isn’t captured in time. This forces the enemy team’s hand, so go for the elimination when they run in for the capture.
Constant comms: With six rounds needed to win the match, there’s plenty of time to strategize attacks and counterplays as the rounds progress. The best duos will formulate and execute a plan for each round, with the ability to pivot as needed. The rounds go by fast, so communicate clearly and keep it brief. Even simple plans will overcome unprepared opposition.
Mode Details
Team size: 1-2 players
Operator Brief
In Gunfight, two teams of two compete in a round-based match. There are no respawns and health does not regenerate. All players are assigned the same randomized Loadout at the start of each round.
The assigned Loadout changes every round, and you never know what you’re going to get; you may be trading shots from afar with Sniper Rifles one round, then rushing in with Shotguns the next. Each Loadout includes Lethal and Tactical equipment, some of which doesn’t come online until a few seconds into each round.
It's up to you to take what’s given and make it work in your favor. Remember, the other team is using the same Loadout.
In each round, players have 40 seconds to eliminate the enemy team. If time runs out and both teams are still alive, an Overtime Zone will spawn on the map for 10 seconds. The first team to capture the zone or eliminate the enemy team wins the round. If neither team wins during overtime, the team with the most health will win.
Gunfight Playlists will feature primarily Strike maps which include close-quarters environments suited for 2 v 2 play.
Match Win Condition
The first team to win six rounds wins the match.
Main XP Gains:
- Eliminating enemies.
- Capturing the Overtime Zone.
Key Terms and Definitions
Contested
An Overtime Zone with members of both teams on it becomes contested, preventing either team from winning the round until one team controls it again.
Trade
Trading occurs when a player is eliminated but also takes down their attacker in the process, or if a nearby teammate takes down their attacker, thus trading eliminations to prevent the enemy team from gaining the advantage.
Recruit Tactics
Make it Work
When you’re handed a Sniper Rifle, switch to the Handgun and rush forward for a close-ranged attack; use your Tactical Equipment to confuse and disorient; drop a Lethal explosive to blast a pursuing enemy. Use the entire Loadout provided each round to play in unexpected ways. When handed a weapon you’re unfamiliar with, check the icon near the ammo counter to see if it’s a single shot, burst, or fully automatic weapon.
Keep Your Cool
Even when you’re down several rounds, there’s always the chance to come back for the win. Take it round by round and don’t get frustrated. An overconfident enemy often becomes a predictable enemy. Keep your cool, counter, and knock them down a peg. There’s nothing like turning around a losing match and clutching the win.
Stick Together
While splitting up has its advantages, sticking together doubles your firepower and gives the opportunity for advantageous gunfights.
Get that Overtime Zone
With just 40 seconds in the round, it doesn’t take long for the Overtime Zone to appear. Work your way to its spawn point in the last moments of the round to capture it for the win when it goes life. Be ready to fight enemy Operators moving toward the objective.
Advanced Tactics
Punish Predictable Plays
Sometimes you’ll encounter a duo who are extremely effective at just one type of play. If, for example, your opponents are strong slayers who consistently rush the center of the map, try flanking out in different direction and eliminating them with a pincer movement. Find the flaw and exploit it.
Go Loud and Flank
Have one player go loud right at the start of the round while the other flanks to the side, eliminating enemies heading toward the noisier teammate. As your map knowledge improves, use your speed and climbing abilities to cut the most efficient path.
Resist the Reload
We’re all guilty of it, firing off a few rounds and then reloading when there’s still plenty of ammo left. Resist that temptation. Gunfight maps are small and getting caught halfway through a reload animation puts you at a serious disadvantage. If you really do need the ammo, consider switching to your Secondary instead.
Use the Health Advantage
If the round ends and nobody captures the Overtime Zone, the team with the highest health remaining wins the round. If you find yourself in a 1 v 1 with the health advantage, grab a good sightline toward the Zone and eliminate the enemy if they go for it, or wait out the round and win by health. If you’ve got lower health, adopt a more aggressive posture by tracking down the enemy or fighting for possession of the Overtime Zone.
There aren’t many feelings like being in a 1v1, a 2v2, or an even more intense 1v2, in any non-respawn multiplayer modes. Gunfight gives you this feeling every round because there are only four of you on the map and only one team can win. So, soak in the intensity and show your dominance by being the better duo.
