Verdansk: Major Points of Interest

Dam

Gora Dam: Gain the high ground at the Dam complex, the only area of Verdansk still iced over. Expect a frosty reception as you traverse the large dominant dam structures that provide elevational advantages and excellent views across much of the rest of the map. While there are interior Ascenders from the tunnels inside the lower generator complex up to the sluice gate towers either side of the Dam wall, the parked helicopter is perhaps the most versatile way to get around this facility. Also check the thick ice behind the Dam. Is that the faint outline of a submarine you can see below the surface? No, it isn’t. Though that rumor is still likely to persist.

Military Base

Arklov Peak Military Base: On the upper plateau below the northern mountains sits a large Military Base that has seen recent action. Featuring a runway; numerous numbered hangars; a maze of barracks, warehouses, and storage areas; and a Killhouse training yard, there’s much to discover (and loot) in these parts.

Quarry

Karst River Quarry: Mining the vast Arklov range for various rocks and minerals since 1961, the Quarry is a vast complex of interconnecting warehouses, refineries, dirt roads, rail lines, yards filled with weighty cubes of stone, and… secrets.

Airport

Verdansk International Airport: Likely a dangerous and active combat zone, Airport features long-range sniping opportunities at the Control Tower, a long underground roadway, vast terminal buildings, and a large Airport Maintenance Hangar complex. Though giant concrete jacks dot the runway in greater numbers than before, this is still a risky place to venture into without a proper game plan.

Storage Town

Storage Town: A bona fide hot drop, this is a maze of over 30 garage structures with six alleyways running north to south and three alleys running east to west. Among this collection of self-storage garages are military tents and a few small brick or metal container offices. Every structure but one is a single level and has a roof you can climb on using nearby scenery. These tight combat corridors result in ambushes being a frequent occurrence. Venture east to visit the last remaining farmsteads in this zone, and south to the infamous swimming pool.

Superstore

Atlas Superstore: A vast commercial structure sits just south of the Airport, and it’s the default hot drop for Operators both veteran and new; you’ll be landing on the roof or trying to parachute through the back window like a pro in no time. Superstore has a distinctive blue and yellow logo, two huge signs at each entrance, and a mazelike interior, making it an excellent place to commandeer, but not one you’d want to get lost in.

TV Station

BCH TV Station: Once serving the surrounding communities with quality programming and hard-hitting news, TV Station is in ruins, though it tends to attract Operators with its caches of loot. TV Station is a key strategic point to hold, with its multi-tiered roof, mazelike interior, and excellent defensive potential.

Boneyard

Zhokov Boneyard: This is the place where planes go to decompose: A sprawling cemetery of airline fuselage sections, hangars, and warehouses where aircraft parts were stripped and sold to the highest bidder. Explore this massive airplane mausoleum using the numbered floodlight poles to situate yourself. Note the walled central area inside the Boneyard with the helipad; known as “Scrapyard”.

Train Station

Verdansk Train Station: The main concourse is imposing Greek Revival building with an impressive façade, domed roof, and ornate ticket hall. Breach this via the pavement steps close to the Metro entrance. Between the two (currently inaccessible) skybridges and covered steps to the northeast and southwest is the main train platform. Two main hallways through the main station building are accessible – just as they were five years ago – but the interior mezzanine, stairs and shopping mall is currently sealed until Mid-Season.

Hospital

Verdansk Hospital: The main hospital structure has recently seen conflict and chaos, and you can add to it if you spot the helicopter and use its rotors to mow down rival Operators across the rooftops. The ten-level tower is the easiest landmark in the area to distinguish – partly because one of the upper floors is on fire – and the main hospital building below and connected by a skybridge has interior wards and surgery rooms to explore.

Stadium

Verdansk Stadium (Acropolis National Arena): Before a dark-suited member of Shadow Company opened the massive skylight with a distinct lack of subtlety in Modern Warfare 2019 Season 05, the Acropolis National Arena was a giant structure with a curved rooftop favoring long-range campers, and a large ground concourse along with entrances to subterranean parking. The current stadium interior is sealed. But for how long?

Lumber

Gorengard Lumber Yard: The edge of the forest wilderness east of Karst River is home to the once-thriving Gorengard Lumber Factory. A scattering of outbuildings offering pre-cut lumber, logs, and rail transportation is now a great place to get away from it all; either to stock up before venturing into more active combat zones, or on the way to Farmland or the wilds further north.

Downtown

Downtown Tavorsk District: The main financial, parliamentary, design, arts, and entertainment districts combine into a once-thriving Downtown. The architecture is as varied as the loot you’ll be picking up. The large-scale urban landscape features the most variation in both horizontal and vertical combat, dominated by the infamous SKN Broadcast Tower (get your steps in by climbing the 16-story interior stairwell), City Hall (with the action centered around the half-circle of entrance pillars), and Museum (a large brutalist structure with a rooftop favored by snipers).

Farmland

Krovnik Farmland: A vast swathe of arable land has been farmed for centuries but has been left abandoned due to the recent conflagration. Barns, cottages, orchards and fallow fields await, along with swift violence. The three old wooden windmills are the unofficial landmark of the northwestern edge of this area, which meanders through pastures, dotted farmsteads, fields of baled hay, all the way to the foothills of Prison.

Promenade

Barakett Promenade: The old East and West Promenade POIs have been combined (on your Tac-Map, but not during Infil) into a single main arterial avenue linking the more rural areas of southwest Verdansk to the once-bustling fairground and Ferris wheel adjacent to the Gora River channel and Downtown, with the Train Station bisecting both Promenades. This divided highway was a bustling hive of commerce. Now the stores, tenement blocks, and open markets sit empty.

Hills

Novi Grazna Hills: The low coastal hills offer views across the map and the POI stretches from the Kart Racing Track (west) all the way to the mouth of the Gora River. Dotted residential tracts, one half-built, encroach the Coastal Memorial. Of all the POIs, Hills has changed the most, with an entirely new stretch of rocky beach and the shallow coastal waters of the Kastovian Sea now accessible. Skulk below the cliffs and use the cliff trails and wooden lookout decks to tactically gain the upper hand.

Park

Tavorsk Park: A small coastal recreational area now sits abandoned, with closed kiosks and drained fountains. A concrete memorial silently watches over this once-vibrant park. Close by is the floodgates at the mouth of the Gora River, the Kastovian Sea with access to Operators seeking aquatic adventures, and impressive subterranean surprises if you manage to (eventually) open Bunker 10 and discover all its secrets….

Port

City of Verdansk Port: The ten dockside cranes, rusting monolithic guardians at the mouth of the Karst River, are your visual cues when heading for the main cargo port. This is a concrete maze of container stacks, crane tracks, checkpoints, processing buildings, fuel depots, and overpass, and a shipping office best described as “Vacant”.

Prison

Zordaya Prison Complex: Constructed in medieval times. Perfected as a place of torture and lament: Prison is a stronghold of cells, yards, and gulag showers where the majority of combat rivalry is settled. Roam the outskirts of this ominous building as the coastal marshland has new trenches to explore. Then prepare for elevated combat across the battlements, down into the cell block tower, past the main Gulag, and out the overflow pipe.

Prisoner of War Zone: Gulag Showers

Fail at victory the first time during a match, and you’re sent to the infamous Prison Showers Gulag, for a 1v1 confrontation with the victor redeploying. As with the original Verdansk, all three Gulag variants are returning, along with the optional, raucous rock-throwing from the cellblocks above.

Gulag (Variant 1): The only variant not completely symmetrical, with a U-shaped central shower block.
Gulag (Variant 2): A wider central area with increased maneuverability, featuring two opposing shower blocks.
Gulag (Variant 3): The central area is dominated by two curved shower block sections, and more cover.

Unmarked Points of Interest

Remember these places from your past?

Get ready to revisit the smaller, but just as memorable areas across Verdansk, including those outside the boundaries of the main named POIs. Some of your fiercest firefights are likely to have centered around these instantly recognizable smaller locations, many likely to be stocked with high value loot or other advantages. Below, we’ve gathered some of the most notable. And infamous….

Public Building Landmarks

Police Station (Top-left): Storm the interior armory, drop in via that handy roof hatch, and look for the parked ATV.

Pharmacy (Top-right): Grab medical supplies at the blue and pitched-roof pharmacy with a nickname more associated a popular breakfast restaurant chain.

Metro (Bottom-left): Though all the Metro entrances are available across the map – including those added during Modern Warfare 2019’s live seasons – there are no plans to open the Fast Travel system.

Fire Station (Bottom-right): Still the best place to grab a “Bertha” truck. Just watch for snipers in the watch tower.

Public Building Landmarks (Continued)

Public House (Top-left): Almost totally sealed from the outside, with a lot of heavy wood and booths and a kitchen on the inside. Does the expertly timed jump trick from the open patio umbrellas onto the exterior balcony still work?

Gas Stations (Top-right): Head to the low roof to survey your surroundings, and to go prone in a pinch, and come here to pick up an all-terrain vehicle, but there’s no need to stop for repairs and gas for your rides; that game mechanic isn’t in Verdansk.

Banks (Bottom-left): Big green buildings could be the place for valuable loot, and the crenelated roof wall offers sniping peeking opportunities.

Burger Towns, Gun Stores, and Tenement Blocks (Bottom-right): Lozoff Pass has it all, including examples of infamous interior stairwell and ranged-roof combat around the apartment building, with loot and concealment opportunities available within the Burger Town and Gun Store.

Unmarked POIs (Northwest Mountains)

The various hamlets known as “Blocs” are dotted across the northern wooded foothills, and feature dwellings in various stages of dilapidation, a rickety railway bridge, impressive views from the tops of comms towers, and giant concrete memorials where you’re likely to find transport as well as an ambush.

Unmarked POIs (North and Northeast)

Exploration close to the Karst River Quarry brings you to various out-of-the-way places, including a Loading Yard, the Crash Site, various wooded compounds in Bloc 14, and remote but strategically important huntsman’s hide towers.

Unmarked POIs (Northeast Wilderness)

The wilderness south of Quarry still features frozen tundra and an illegally parked bus (Top-right), and at lower altitudes, a WHP Camp (Top-left) with overwatch possibilities when viewing Stadium to the south. Meanwhile at Bloc 14, the mechanic’s bay garage (Bottom-left) indicates less visual glare when viewing the outdoors from inside. Finally, a reconnoiter wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Grandma’s House (Bottom-right).

Unmarked POIs (Western Verdansk)

The western edge of the map features low foothills and a shipping yard just below the windfarm (Top-right). But the largest collection of vehicular scrap outside of Boneyard is a little further south in the Junkyard (Top-left). There are also Bunkers to explore (Bottom-right), though they seem to be locked… for the moment. Venture southwest to the Kart Racing Track (Bottom-left), a likely spot for an ATV and new access down to the coastal waters.

Unmarked POIs (Central Verdansk)

From the remains of the local swimming pool (Bottom-left) and Old Farmstead (Top-right) that provides treacherous movement opportunities from Storage Town to Superstore, it’s time to remember your preferred routes across the map. Utilize any piece of cover you can, from the Hobo Carriage (Top-left) just east of Hangars, to the collection of fuel vats just south of Airport Maintenance (Bottom-right), the latter earning a nickname a little too rude to mention in this Blog.

Unmarked POIs (Central Verdansk, continued)

On the wooded hills overlooking Hospital where a Streamer was once run over by his own Cargo Truck is a small hut and radio mast; usually occupied, more often than not (Top-left). West of Train Station, the view from an interior carriage shows the refined and improved draw distances (Top-right). But the twin tenements of Torsk Bloc (Bottom-left) and the surroundings south of Superstore, including the Graveyard, are where power positions can be claimed. As well as getting a brutal stairs workout to reach the top of the Bloc.

Unmarked POIs (Central and Eastern Verdansk)

As you move across various major POIs like Stadium, it’s beneficial to plot a course through the surrounding areas, like the fumigation warehouse and Bloc 6 (Top row). Or you can hole up in the wilderness close to the unfrozen Karst River and Bloc 18 (Bottom-left). Further downstream is the old Fishing Hut (Bottom-right) on the edge of the concrete river basin, a common place to see hapless squads eliminated trying to reposition during a late circle collapse.

Unmarked POIs (Southern Verdansk)

Along the southern edge of Verdansk, the Kastovian Sea has become accessible to Operators, and the shoreline (Top-left) with its steep paths and viewing decks has creating new, but usually not match-changing opportunities for maneuvering. Further inland are the dotted dwellings across Novi Grazna Hills (Top-right), with some remote homesteads being an optimal place to seek cover. Further east, the small military storage depot adjacent to Port (Bottom-left) is now one of the entrances to the newly dug marsh trenches that meander all the way to the base of Prison, offering a respite of cover. South of the Prison, the seldom-visited cove and rugged coastal offers Operators a fair share of new surprises…
