Weekend One: Maps and Modes

Weekend One kicks off with four maps and four game modes at the start of the Early Access period, with an additional map and mode being added on Sunday when the Beta opens up to all PlayStation players.

Core Maps

TACTICAL INTEL: Set in beautiful Rio de Janeiro, Favela’s topography gives you a number of options to choose from when engaging enemy Operators. Stick to the perimeter to keep opponents at range along the streets and through the shacks, or head into the central alleys to fight up close. Use the newer movement mechanics to get around the rooftops with more ease than ever before.

Estate

TACTICAL INTEL: Get ready to infiltrate the great outdoors of Estate. Fight for a spot in the lodge or move through the wooded perimeter to flank opponents. Beware of enemies hanging out in the scattered buildings and be ready to swap to a close-ranged weapon when engaging Operators within.

Skidrow

TACTICAL INTEL: Roam the streets of Skidrow and utilize the new Tac-Stance to round tight corners in this urban environment. Battle through the central building or take the tunnel and alleys to get around your enemies. Flanking opportunities are abundant here, so keep your head on a swivel.

Rust (Open Beta)

TACTICAL INTEL: Prepare for chaos. Fight for your position at the top of the tower or use the map’s various obstacles to avoid detection on the ground. It’s all about making the most of your angles in this infamous desert environment. Use your full array of Loadout gear to get the advantage on the enemy team.

Ground War Map Popov Power

TACTICAL INTEL: Break through the defenses of the Popov Power Plant. Watch high and low for snipers, armored vehicles, and enemies emerging from the large concrete buildings. Prepare for every range of combat available in Modern Warfare III because in the Power Plant, you can and will experience all of them.

Game Modes

  • Team Deathmatch: Use teamwork to eliminate enemy players and reach the score limit.
  • Domination: Capture and hold up to three flags to gain points for your team.
  • Hardpoint: Capture and hold the Hardpoint (a zone that shifts to several locations during the match) to earn points for your team.
  • Kill Confirmed (Open Beta): Team Deathmatch with a twist. Eliminate enemies and grab the Dog Tags they drop to score for your team. Pick up your teammate’s tags to deny the enemy from scoring.
  • Ground War: Large-scale conflict featuring vehicles. Capture and hold objectives to score. Capturing objectives opens forward spawning locations for your team. Like Domination, but with more objectives.

Weekend One: Progression

Players can obtain a maximum level of 20 during the first weekend of the Modern Warfare III Beta. As you earn additional Player Levels, you’ll unlock more Loadout gear to use after hitting the Player Level 4 milestone when Custom Loadouts become available. See below for the items you’ll unlock for each level on the way to 20.

Unlocks for Levels 1–3: Premade Loadouts

The first three levels include three premade Loadouts designed for wildly different playstyles.

Demolitionist: A Loadout focused on explosives and survivability.

Combat Controller: A close-range, fully silenced Loadout emphasizing stealth and counterintelligence.

Rusher: A mobile Loadout for point-taking and flanking.

Unlocks for Level 4: Custom Loadouts, New Launcher and Perk

Custom Loadouts: Player-customized Loadouts that allow you to select Weapons, Equipment, and Perks.

PILA (Launcher): Portable infrared surface-to-air missile with a free-fire option. Self-propelled missiles have a higher speed and moderate explosive yield.

Infantry Vest (Perk): Increases Tactical Sprint duration and reduces its refresh time. Duplicate effects do not stack. If equipped with Running Sneakers, gain the effects of Lightweight Boots instead.

Unlocks for Level 5: New Killstreak

Guardian-SC (Killstreak): A beam-shaped, nonlethal, area-denial weapon. Enemies entering the beam endure similar effects to a stun grenade, such as reduced movement speed, blurred vision, and removed UI.

Unlocks for Level 6: New Field Upgrade

Comms Scrambler (Field Upgrade): Disables communication with intel within its radius. Enemies will not be able to activate Killstreaks. Enemy UAV and intel systems will not detect you and your teammates. Location of the scrambler is visible in the enemy minimap.

Unlocks for Level 7: New Weapon

DG-58 LSW (LMG): A lightweight squad weapon for controlling zones and laying down suppressive 5.8 x 42 mm fire.

Unlocks for Level 8: New Lethal Equipment

Claymore (Lethal Equipment): Proximity-activated explosive mine.

Unlocks for Level 9: New Killstreak

Remote Turret (Killstreak): Automated turret that scans for nearby enemies and fires incendiary-based rounds. The Operator can also take manual control of the turret.

Unlocks for Level 10: New Perks

Vests are new to all players of the Call of Duty franchise, changing your Loadout in meaningful ways, including changing the type and number of gear slots available to you.

Engineer Vest (Perk): Spot enemy Equipment, Field Upgrades, and Killstreaks through walls. Aiming down sights highlights them for your team. Faster Field Upgrade recharge.

Tac Mask (Perk): Reduces strength of enemy flash, stun, and gas grenades. Immunity to shock, EMP, and Snapshot Grenades.

Unlocks for Level 11: New Perk

Mission Control Comlink (Perk): Reduce Killstreak cost by one kill. Reduce Scorestreak cost by 125.

Unlocks for Level 12: New Weapon

MTZ-556 (Assault Rifle): Boasting an exceptional fire rate for a 5.56 weapon, this closer-quarters Assault Rifle excels at close and midrange.

Unlocks for Level 13: New Tactical Equipment

Battle Rage (Tactical Equipment): Experimental stimulant that gives you an adrenaline rush. Tactical Equipment is resisted and Tactical Sprint is constantly refreshed.

Unlocks for Level 15: New Perk

Ordnance Gloves (Perk): Throw Equipment farther. Reset fuse timer on thrown back grenades.

Unlocks for Level 16: New Tactical Equipment

Smoke Grenade (Tactical Equipment): Deploys a smoke screen that blocks vision and automated targeting systems.

Unlocks for Level 17: New Weapon

BAS-B (Battle Rifle): A highly controllable and powerful Battle Rifle chambered in .277 Fury, designed for all-round reliability and performance.

Unlocks for Level 18: New Tactical Equipment

Scatter Mine (Tactical Equipment): Throw a field of mines across a wide area that detonate when enemies come within range.

Unlocks for Level 19: New Perk

Climbing Boots (Perk): Increased climbing and mantling speed. Reduces fall damage.

Unlocks for Level 20: New Perk

Gunner Vest (Perk): Deploy with max ammo. Improved reload speed. If equipped with Mag Holster, gain the effects of Mission Comlink.

Weekend Two: Maps and Modes

In addition to all the Weekend One content, Weekend Two is scheduled to bring two more maps and two more game modes, including the debut of Cutthroat featuring 3v3v3 combat.

Core Map

Highrise

TACTICAL INTEL: Ascend to the rooftop of a New York City skyscraper. Break out across the multilevel terrain, exploring the offices on either side, the helipad, the maintenance tunnels, and the infamous crane leading to huge longshot potential for those who brave its heights.

Ground War Map

Orlov Military Base

TACTICAL INTEL: The Orlov Military Base is narrow and full of corners and warehouses with plenty of windows to fire from. Keep an eye on everything, and either clear it out or use the fast vehicles to blaze a trail down the path to your objective.

Modes

  • Cutthroat: Engage in vicious 3v3v3 combat, where the last team standing or that captures the overtime flag wins the round.
  • Search & Destroy: Take turns defending and destroying bomb sites. No respawns.

Weekend Two: Progression

Players can obtain a maximum level of 30 during the second weekend of the Beta, adding more unlockable items in addition to gaining access to the challenge-based Armory Unlocks. For the unlocks between Levels 1 and 20, consult the Weekend One section earlier in this blog.

Unlocks for Level 21: New Weapon

Renetti (Handgun): A burst-fire pistol with a staggering fire rate and controllability in the right hands. Unlock the full-auto Aftermarket Parts Conversion Kit for the Renetti after completing an in-game challenge at max weapon level.

Unlocks for Level 22: New Field Upgrade

Deployable Cover (Field Upgrade): Portable, rapidly deployable ballistic cover.

Unlocks for Level 23: New Killstreak

Mosquito Drone (Killstreak): Explosive drone that circles the area around where the drone is launched. It dive-bombs enemies it spots and explodes.

Unlocks for Level 24: New Perk

Bone Conduction Headset (Perk): Reduces combat noise, allowing improved identification of enemy footsteps and gunshots.

Unlocks for Level 25: New Feature

Upon reaching Level 25, a new level of content opens to the player. Armory Unlocks give Operators the ability to unlock more items for their Loadouts, but instead of earning this gear simply by leveling up, players must complete specific in-game challenges to access them. Consider looking through your Loadout options at this point to see which items you can unlock, as well as the challenge required to unlock them.

Armory Unlocks: Challenges to unlock weapons, Equipment, Perks, Killstreaks, and cosmetics.

Unlocks for Level 26: New Killstreak

Juggernaut Recon (Killstreak): Juggernaut Recon gear delivered by care package. The suit is equipped with a radar that pings nearby enemies. Contains a riot shield, Haymaker, and smoke grenade.

Unlocks for Level 27: New Weapon

WSP Swarm (SMG): Ultracompact and maneuverable, this 9 mm submachine gun overwhelms targets with a fast fire rate.

Unlocks for Level 28: New Field Upgrade

A.C.S. (Field Upgrade): The Automated Computer Spike slowly captures points and temporarily hacks nearby enemy devices.

Unlocks for Level 29: New Perk

Commando Gloves (Perk): Reload while sprinting.

Unlocks for Level 30: New Lethal Equipment and Perk

Throwing Knife (Lethal Equipment): Retrievable knife that is lethal on impact.

Demolition Vest (Perk): Resupply Lethal and Tactical Equipment every 25 seconds.

Top 3 Tips for Weekend Two

  1. Weekend Two introduces Highrise, a classic skyscraper map featuring incredible power positions accessible to those willing to make the climb. Get up on the crane, scale the walls to reach the rooftop, and explore other ways to interact with the map using the modern movement system.
  2. Play the new Cutthroat game mode to start working on your 3v3v3 strategies. Rounds can be highly strategic or all-out chaos; with practice, you’ll learn how to succeed in both situations.
  3. With both Ground War maps live during Weekend Two, it’s time to test out those long-ranged Loadouts. Put those Sniper Rifles and Launchers to good use.
